The study of the subject is focused to understand the criticality of water, and the measures for its conservation . Chapter 1 understands the importance of water in nature and the importance of it to mankind. Chapter 2 is a critical review of the water resource in India w. r. t. its various usages -Existing & Projected. A brief review of the surface water development and the groundwater development projects in India after independence is done. Statistical data also updates the alarming situation of the Ground water and the inadequate and nonwholistic efforts for surface water development in India. As understood from the above matter of study, ground water is an assumed entity and neglected aspect of water as a resource. Hence the chapter 3 studies the scientific aspect of Ground water in detail, the techniques for its conservation and recharge. Chapter 4 focuses on the subject of watershed. The technical definition of the basic concepts and aspects of watershed enables to understand the scientific approach to deal with it. Case studies and analysis of examples in India with respect to the land requirement for harvesting enough water for irrigation and domestic purpose clearly indicate the handsome availability that can be generated. The management of watershed is the solution to improve the situation of water scarcity is amply clear from the study of this chapter. In chapter 5 case studies of Kadvanchi in Jalna district is a example to showcase the efficient watershed management, and its other important ecological benefits mainly in the forms of soil conservation. The application of concept of Ridge to Valley is the key to success of this watershed.-
